Si Sveti ( All Saints Monastery)

Along side the highway Skopje-Ohrid, close to the village Leshani, one of the most interesting Macedonian monasteries called “Si Sveti” is located. Translated in English the name means All Saints and it is interesting that this is the only church building in Macedonia that is dedicated to all the Saints.

St.Sofia Church

St.Sofia Church

The Church of St.Sophia can be found in the beautiful south-western town of Ohrid.It is one of the largest medieval churches in this territory.

The church was once used as cathedral in the time of Czar Samuel in the 10th century. There are no inscriptions that can help with revealing the time it was built. It was also suggested that today’s church was either built or restored during the period of the Archbishop Leo who was in the throne of the church from the periods between 1035-1056.

Marko’s Monastery

Marko’s Monastery

Along the Marko’s River, behind the southern slopes of Mount Vodno, one of the oldest monastery complex in the region of Skopje can be found. The inside of the church is dedicated to St. Dimitrie and was built in 14th century. According to the King Markowritten sign on the main entrance, it is recognized that King Volkasin commenced the construction and his son King Marko, whom it was named after, finished it.
