Walking around Skopje is a different experience than it was one year ago: the benefit of Skopje 2014 can now be felt.
The first dug holes and work site fences have begun to give way to the new face of the city. Building completions and monument dedications are events to rally national and civic pride.
For sure there is still a great amount of work left to be done, and even the “finished” projects are rough around the edges, but people seem to be acting differently amidst the new landscape around Macedonia Square. More families are out for strolls. Friends meet and play on the steps of the fountain. People are smiling.
