Me, Isadora

l_me-isadora-6The modern ballet production Me, Isadora is the work of ballet dancer and choreographer Olga Pango. Her ballet is titled “Me, Isadora” because it was inspired by the great American ballet dancer Isadora Duncan, who created numerous reforms in ballet. She altered classical ballet costumes and shoes and simplified all the important elements: scenography, lights, and music. In short, she introduced freedom into ballet performance.

What encouraged Pango to create this ballet was an article she read on Duncan, which stated that she was both an artist and a lover. Out of all the men Duncan had in her life, the love affair that drew Pango’s attention most was one with the Russian poet Sergey Esenin. Unfortunately, this love faced a tragic end: he died of too much alcohol, and she of a car accident when a hand-painted silk scarf draped around her neck became entangled around one of the vehicle’s wheels.

The character Me, Isadora, is entrusted to Biljana Kalenikova and the other main role is played by Sasha Eftimova. The actor Vasil Zafirchev appears on the stage as Esenin. Other ballet performers are: Dafina Danilovska, Stefan Kochevski, Lile Ilenkovska, Biljana Basmadzieva and Pintilie Razvan George from Romania. The Music was written by the famous Macedonian singer and composer Kaliopi Bukle, while the design, scene and costumes are all the work of Blagoj Micevski.

Pango received her Master’s Degree from the Music and Dance Academy in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.  Me, Isadora was her first choreographic effort.

Me, Isadora will be shown in the Macedonian Opera and Ballet on 12 December from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. For tickets and more information, please phone the ticket office of the Macedonian Opera and Ballet:
