Skopje, You Will Be Joy was first sung in 1974 by the choir Razvigorche (Spring Breeze). The text was written by Boshko Smakjoski and the music and arrangement were done by Alexander Dzambazov.
This has become one of the most loved children’s songs ever written about the city of Skopje. It refers to the rebuilding of Skopje after the disastrous earthquake of 1963.
Skopje You Will Be Joy
The beautiful city will spring up again
Midst songs and mutual agreement
Like a sun it will rise complete
Like a warm, gentle ray.
Chorus 2X
Skopje you will be joy
Skopje you will be holy
And you will be a beautiful expression
of all that is brotherly in this world.
Alongside the Vardar it will be erected
And a children’s cry will wake it up
And a new time will come for it
Like a bright city image.
Chorus 2X
Skopje you will be joy
Skopje you will be holy
And you will be a beautiful expression
Of all that is brotherly in this world.
