The Macedonian Philharmonic opens its 2011-2012 concert season on 30 September with a grandiose music piece – Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No 2, “Resurrection,” to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of his death. The concert will be performed in concert with the Macedonian Opera, and it will be conducted by Emil Tabakov.
The 2011-12 Programme
The concert season will comprise three cycles titled “Laureates,” “Virtuosos” and “Cyrillic,” as well as several thematic concerts, such as “Coffee in Paris,” “The Colonel Kize,” and others.
1) The cycle “Laureates” will include international competitions winners including Kristof Barati (violinist), Alexej Gorlatch (pianist), and Mayuko Kamio (violinist).
2) Michele Campanella, a great pianist and one of the top interpreters of the music of Franz Liszt, will perform Piano Concerto No. 1 by Liszt in the program cycle “Virtuosos” under the guidance of conductor Riccardo Muti.
3) The cycle “Cyrillic” will present many of the best Macedonian musicians including the following:
- The clarinetist Ismail Lumanovski
- The soprano Ana Durlovski
- The pianist Ana Gaceva
- The violinist Sophia Nikoska
- The percussionist Atanas Aleksov
- The oboist Vladimir Lazarevski
- The violinist Vladimir Krstev
- The bassoonist Vancho Stojanovski
- The violoncellist Paskal Krapovski
The concerts of the new season will be led by first class conductors like Emil Tabakov, Evan Christ, Timothy Redmond, Martin Panteleev, Paul Meyer, Aleksandar Markovic, Helmut Imig and the Macedonians, Borjan Canev and Sasha Nikolovski-Gjumar.
