Mountaineering Youth Summit

The Youth Commission of the Macedonian Mountain Sport Federation is sponsoring an international youth climbing and trekking camp from 21-27 August in the region around Lake Ohrid. This event is open to youth ages 16-30 from around the world. It is also recognized as a UIAA Global Youth Summit.

The purpose of the camp is to offer young climbers from around the world an opportunity to meet together, make new friends, and exchange climbing techniques, all in the region around beautiful Lake Ohrid in western Macedonia.

Activities include climbing in Zli Dol canyon in Galichitsa National Park, the best sport climbing location in the country, trekking in three different national parks, and swimming in Lake Ohrid.

Sunday, 21st of August 2011

• Arrival of the participants – transport from the airport provided by bus or car. (Confirmation and arrival times of participants needed)
• Confirmation of registration
• Accommodation in mountain hut Matka
• 16:00 – 19:00h Trekking route: The Holy Virgin Monastery – St. Nedela church – St. Andrew
• 20:00h – dinner
• Meeting – Introduction of the participants and presentation to activities

Monday, 22nd of August 2011

• 08:00-09:00h Breakfast
• 09:00 – 11:00h Visit of the Vrelo cave by boat
• 11:00 – 14:00h Climbing (splitting in teams according climber’s current level of climbing)
• Safety techniques (safety belaying, clipping, falling)
• 14:00 – 15:30 Transport to Natiolal park Mavrovo
• Lunch – traditional local meal – Trnica
• Trekking in Mavrovo
• Accommodation in tents
• 19:00h – dinner
• Presentation – climbing sites in Macedonia

Tuesday, 23rd of August 2011

• 08:00-09:00h Breakfast
• 10:00h – climbing (technique, power endurance)
• Lunch at the rock – lunch pack
• Climbing and swimming
• 19:00h – dinner
• Presentation by the participants

Wednesday, 24th of August 2011

• 10:00h – climbing (more difficult routes for each participant)
• Lunch at the rock – lunch pack
• Climbing and swimming
• 19:00h – dinner
• Debate – discussion on the previous day’s activities – new skills learned, bigger (newer) experience, raised climbing level

• 10:00h – Trekking to the Galichica Top (hike through Galichitsa National Park, lunch package)

Friday, 26th of August 2011
