Cinematheque of Macedonia will screen five newly restored films 19-23 January. The programme includes the films Gypsy Magic, Visa of Evil, Macedonian Part of Hell, Under the Same Sky, and Till Victory and Beyond.
- Gypsy Magic (1997), is a film by Stole Popov about a Gypsy family desparately trying to escape their life in the Balkans.
- Visa of Evil (1959), is a thriller by France Stiglic about a couple drawn into narcotics smuggling and the web of evil and violence it engenders.
- Macedonian Part of Hell (1971), is a war film by Vatroslav Mimica based on the true story of the legendary partisan Todor Angelov, called “the Teacher.”
- Under the Same Sky (1964), a war story by Ljubisa Georgievski and Miomir Stamenkovic-Miki set in western Macedonia during the War of National Liberation.
- Till Victory and Beyond (1966), a war film by Zika Mitrovic exploring the difficulty of finding peace even after the war has ended.
Prints of these films were restored in 2010 as part of Cinematheque’s ongoing project to preserve and protect Macedonian feature and documentary films. The preservation work was carried out by Sofia-based Kodak Cinelabs.
