The Southeast Europe Youth Gathering in Ohrid, 10-12 September. Organized by the Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of its Chairmanship of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers in 2010. The purpose of the event is to launch the “Ohrid Process,” a Macedonian proposal to encourage youth involvement in civic affairs and the eventual development of a Southeast Europe Youth Council.
Inspiration for the proposal is found in the Preamble of the Revised European Charter on the Participation of Young People in Local and Regional Life:
Participation and active citizenship is about having the right, the means, the space and the opportunity and where necessary the support to participate in and influence decisions and engage in actions and activities so as to contribute to building a better society.
Several countries already operate national youth councils. The Ohrid Process hopes to encourage organization of additional national councils and promote better operation and cooperation between groups throughout the region.
Interested parties should contact the Republic of Macedonia Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more details or check their Council of Europe
The Council of Europe is an international organization in Strasbourg comprised of 47 European countries. It was set up to promote democracy and protect human rights and the rule of law in Europe.
