At precisely 12 noon on 14 August a pistol will sound the start of the 2010 Ohrid Swimming Marathon, and top marathon swimmers from around the world will vie for victory in the prestigious race. This is an important event, staking its claim among America’s Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, Italy’s Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli, and swimming the English Channel as one of the top 100 open water swims in the world.
The 30 kilometer course starts from St Naum at the south end of the lake, hugs the shore, and finishes in Ohrid Harbor. The unpredictable waters of Lake Ohrid make this competition a challenge even for the most seasoned veterans.
The race features elite world class swimmers and offers US$10,000 in prize money as part of the global FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix circuit.
